Colaba Apartment Fire Contained Within Minutes

Mumbai witnessed another narrow escape on Thursday when a residential tower in Colaba caught fire on its uppermost floor. The emergency began just after eight in the morning, sending thick smoke billowing across Sassoon Dock and prompting frantic calls to the fire brigade. Responding units found the seat of the fire limited to a single flat where wiring, electronic gadgets and furnishings had ignited. Working in tight stairwells, firefighters used water jets and foam to stop the flames from spreading downward. Within twelve minutes the danger was neutralised. One resident, a middle-aged woman, received superficial burns on her right hand. She chose to remain at the scene rather than visit a hospital.
