CM Yadav Highlights Vast Graphite Reserves in Betul–Alirajpur
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, speaking in Bhopal on July 4, underscored Madhya Pradesh’s strategic importance in the country’s industrial roadmap. He cited the state’s rich mineral deposits and pro‑investment measures as engines that will boost the local economy and support the national self‑reliance drive.
Yadav focused on the Betul‑Alirajpur mineral belt, where extensive stretches of premium graphite have been identified. Characterised by high fixed‑carbon levels and superior flaky quality, this graphite is highly sought after for electric vehicles, energy‑storage systems, electronics, and defense applications.
The Geological Survey of India estimates that Betul district alone contains about 11 million metric tonnes of graphite, with key blocks at Chikhalar, Gauthana and Golighat. The acquisition of a small graphite block in Alirajpur by Coal India Ltd marks a significant entry into commercial graphite mining, paving the way for larger operations. Experts also suggest the presence of vanadium in the Betul shale, potentially expanding the area’s mineral portfolio.
