CM Suvendu praises writer Taslima Nasrin, Roy welcomes her return
Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari publicly lauded Bangladeshi novelist and poet Taslima Nasrin during a cultural program at the Rabindra Sadan, calling her an eminent writer who is free to visit Kolkata whenever she wishes. The CM added that the new government has restored full freedom of expression and constitutional rights, allowing citizens to travel without restriction.
Trinamool MP Saugat Roy echoed the compliment, describing Nasrin as a talented poet and writer whose return after a long absence would be welcomed by the people of Bengal. He called for robust security measures to protect her, stating that safeguarding writers is a collective responsibility.
Nasrin, who arrived in Kolkata on Friday, previously addressed a gathering organized by Secular Mission, Human Rights Beyond Borders Foundation and West Bengal authorities, asserting that criticizing Islam or speaking the truth about the religion does not constitute an attack on Muslims. She urged reforms, development, and liberation for the Muslim community.
