In a powerful call to action at Chennai’s Global Women Summit, Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin on Tuesday outlined how women’s empowerment is central to the state’s trillion-dollar economy ambition.
Speaking at the two-day event, Stalin underscored the DMK government’s dedication to inclusive growth through strong infrastructure and social frameworks. Women, he asserted, will play a pivotal role in realizing this vision.
“Sustainable development demands women’s active involvement and leadership,” the Chief Minister stated firmly. He warned that sidelining half the population dooms any society to stagnation.
Stalin detailed ongoing efforts to remove obstacles in women’s path to education, jobs, and business ventures. A flagship program, the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam, delivers monthly financial aid of Rs 1,000 to over 1.3 crore women family heads, fortifying the social safety net.
Proudly, he highlighted Tamil Nadu’s lead in female labor force participation nationwide. Investors, Stalin shared, prioritize women’s employment when eyeing the state. Private sector initiatives reserving jobs for women have gained momentum, earning his endorsement.
Reflecting on history, Stalin invoked Periyar’s crusade for women’s liberation within the Dravidian legacy. He lauded Karunanidhi’s landmark measures: equal property rights, women in policing, and quotas in local governance.
The address resonated with delegates, reinforcing Tamil Nadu’s gender parity model. With women driving innovation and workforce growth, the state’s economic leap appears within reach, blending tradition with forward-thinking policies for lasting impact.
