Haryana’s Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini traveled to Punjab’s Ludhiana on Friday to join a grand commemoration of Satguru Ram Singh Maharaj’s birth anniversary in Samrala. The event celebrated the saint’s role as a pioneer of national awakening and social reform.
Delivering the keynote, Saini offered profound respects, calling Satguru’s doctrines essential blueprints for societal change and national resurgence. He highlighted how the saint’s existence serves as an enduring blueprint for progress anchored in moral integrity and collective welfare.
In a significant move, Saini pledged Haryana’s support for creating a dedicated peeth in Satguru’s name after consultations with the event organizers. He also honored the Namdhari martyrs of the Kuka Movement, whose ultimate sacrifices fueled India’s path to liberty.
Portraying Satguru as a prophetic figure, Saini noted his unique fusion of devotion with action, spirituality with public service. In an era of colonial oppression, rampant social vices, and demoralized populace, Baba Ram Singh galvanized the community via the Namdhari initiative.
The movement embedded self-esteem, order, and honor, demonstrating a saint’s duty to rouse the masses, defy wrongs, and elevate human dignity. The Kuka uprising, ignited against British rule after 1849, transcended mere economic boycott to ignite patriotic fervor.
Advocating peaceful resistance through non-cooperation, swadeshi adoption, shunning imports, rejecting colonial setups, empowering village councils, and fostering autonomy, Satguru’s strategies prefigured Gandhi’s campaigns.
British reprisals peaked with Baba Ram Singh’s exile and the 1872 mass executions by cannon. Undeterred, Namdhari resistance persisted until 1947, realizing independence through unyielding devotion.
Quoting Netaji Bose’s praise for their valor, Saini stressed preserving freedom’s legacy. He linked this to modern tributes: the 2014 stamp release under PM Modi and today’s self-reliance drive echoing Satguru’s vision.
Today, as challenges mount, Satguru Ram Singh’s legacy urges unified action for a resilient, value-driven nation.
