CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Promises Rapid Flood‑Control Works Across Assam

Guwahati, August 12 — Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma reassured the public that the Assam government will continue to operate in “mission mode” to repair flood‑damaged embankments and strengthen flood‑control infrastructure statewide. The statement came after the successful repair of four broken embankments in Jorhat district.

The CM underscored that the administration is fast‑tracking repairs in all affected districts, with particular focus on critical break‑points that threaten villages, farms and road networks. She also called for coordinated action among local officials, field agencies and engineering teams to expedite the reinforcement of existing structures.

Assam’s geography, dominated by the Brahmaputra and its tributaries, makes embankments a vital line of defense against floodwaters. Cracks or breaches can cause rapid inundation, endangering lives and destroying crops. The government’s directive aims to ensure that repaired embankments can endure higher water pressures in upcoming monsoon seasons.

Sarma’s message highlighted the dual approach of immediate repair and long‑term strengthening, signalling that flood management and the safety of vulnerable communities remain top priorities for the state.
