Citywide Prohibition Order Issued in Mumbai Following Delhi Demonstrations

In response to the unrest sparked by the CJ Party’s demonstration at Delhi’s Jantar‑Mantar, Mumbai authorities have issued a citywide prohibition order effective from Thursday through 6 August.

The order bars gatherings of five or more people, marches, and any unlawful assembly. Police officials stressed that the move is intended to pre‑empt any escalation that could threaten lives or property.

Eight FIRs have been registered against roughly 900 individuals involved in recent local protests, and law‑enforcement agencies are urging the public to adhere strictly to the curfew.

Additional forces have been positioned in high‑risk localities, and officers have been instructed to intervene immediately should any unauthorised gathering occur.

The prohibition also includes a total ban on carrying firearms, explosives, public effigy displays, music, chants, speeches, and the creation or distribution of posters, pamphlets or symbols deemed detrimental to public order or state security.
