Police CID detains Sumit Roy in West Midnapore land scam following SC decision

The Criminal Investigation Department of West Bengal police arrested Sumit Roy, the chief suspect in the Salboni land scam, after the Supreme Court cancelled the interim relief that had temporarily shielded him. Roy, who works closely with Trinamool MP Abhishek Banerjee, was located at the MP’s residence in Kalighat, South Kolkata. When CID officers attempted to gain entry, private guards briefly resisted, but the team eventually entered and placed Roy under arrest. He was taken to the CID headquarters in Bhavani Bhavan for interrogation and is likely to be presented before a West Midnapore court within the next 48 hours. The Salboni case alleges that Roy orchestrated illegal land deals worth several crores, and his earlier bail request was denied by the Calcutta High Court, prompting a appeal that led to the Supreme Court’s revocation of his stay.
