A low‑priced e‑rickshaw’s battery management system typically relays data such as charge level, voltage, temperature and current to a rider’s smartphone via Bluetooth. The “BAT BMS” app, identified as originating from a Chinese developer, bypasses the limited security of these systems. When a user with the app approaches an e‑rickshaw within roughly 10‑15 metres, the software can instantly pair with the BMS and command the discharge switch to close, cutting power to the motor and bringing the vehicle to a halt. The government’s swift directive to remove the app reflects growing concerns over such remote‑disable capabilities.
