Children Among Dozens Hospitalised in Uttar Pradesh Golgappa Outbreak

A sudden surge in gastrointestinal illness struck Siddharthnagar district, Uttar Pradesh, after residents bought golgappas from a roadside seller during the Diwali period. More than 150 individuals reported symptoms, prompting local hospitals to admit over thirty patients, many of whom were children.

Medical teams at the district hospital confirmed that 18 children required placement in the pediatric intensive care unit, while 15 adults over fifteen years of age were also admitted. The affected villages, primarily Kalnakhor Pedari in the Khesrahra police circle, reported vomiting and diarrhoea within forty‑eight hours of eating the snack.

Although two or three cases were initially life‑threatening, doctors now say all patients are in a stable condition. Additional sufferers continue to be transported to health facilities, some arriving via public buses.

The episode follows a comparable incident in Amethi district where a snack named “khasta” caused illness in more than a hundred people. Health officials urge vendors to adhere to strict food‑handling protocols, especially during festive seasons, to safeguard public health.
