Chief Minister Sarma Highlights New Agreement Boosting Regional Cancer Care
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma used his X account to celebrate a fresh accord between Mizoram and the Assam Cancer Care Foundation. The agreement integrates Mizoram’s Universal Healthcare Scheme with ACCF’s cancer hospitals, allowing Mizoram residents to receive cash‑free oncology treatment in Assam.
The announcement underscores Assam’s ambition to evolve into the North‑East’s flagship healthcare hub. Sarma pointed out that the partnership follows similar schemes with Arunachal Pradesh and Nagaland, creating a tri‑state framework for affordable, high‑quality cancer care.
Under the arrangement, Mizoram patients will be admitted to any ACCF facility across Assam, with all costs covered by the Mizoram scheme. The existing state‑specific schemes for Arunachal and Nagaland remain in place, ensuring continuity of benefits.
ACCF, a collaborative effort of the Assam government and Tata Trusts, operates a growing network of specialised cancer centres. The new tie‑up aims to lower the financial and logistical burden on patients who previously had to travel to larger metros for treatment.
