Chief Minister and Samrat Chaudhary Credited for Better Water Drainage

In Baghelpur, the combined efforts of Bihar’s chief minister and senior minister Samrat Chaudhary have been credited with accelerating flood‑drainage operations. Kumar Shailedra, speaking to media, detailed how the region, situated between the Ganga and Kosi rivers, routinely faces rising water levels each year.

This season, despite lower overall rainfall, upstream runoff created a surge that threatened local settlements. The minister said his persistent request led to the opening of previously sealed gates, which immediately improved the flow of water towards downstream channels.

The improved drainage has lowered flood depths and enabled emergency services to distribute aid more effectively. Officials remain vigilant as Nepal’s river systems stay high, prompting a high‑alert status for Bihar’s flood‑prone districts. Weather alerts continue for Khagaria, Begusarai, Munger and other areas, with orange warnings covering eleven districts.

Shailedra also highlighted political accountability, noting that the previous West Bengal administration had not permitted similar gate openings, thereby aggravating water stagnation. He concluded by affirming that the current leadership is delivering tangible relief.
