Chief Minister orders magisterial probe into Satyaniketan collapse

Following the tragic building collapse in Satyaniketan, Delhi’s chief minister, Reckha Gupta, visited the site on Monday morning. She ordered a magisterial inquiry to determine the exact reasons behind the failure of the aging structure.

During her inspection, the chief minister instructed the police to file a formal FIR against the building’s alleged owner, Hariram, and any other parties found negligent. She emphasized that the investigation must be exhaustive and that those responsible will be held fully accountable under the law.

The chief minister’s statements came after police confirmed that the collapse occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, while repair work was in progress in the basement. Heavy rainfall was also mentioned as a possible factor that exacerbated the damage.

The order for a magisterial probe signals a high‑level response, and the Delhi government has pledged to ensure that safety standards for student accommodations are rigorously enforced in the future.
