Chief Minister Hails Police Crackdown on Yaba and Heroin Trafficking

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma lauded the Guwahati police after they confiscated drugs valued at about Rs 39.4 crore near the city's Inter State Bus Terminus. The operation uncovered ten sealed packets of heroin and approximately 140,000 Yaba tablets, a meth‑based stimulant known for its high addiction potential.

Posting on X, the chief minister thanked the police force for the "excellent" operation, emphasizing that such decisive action is essential for safeguarding the future of Assam’s younger generation. He underscored that disrupting large‑scale drug shipments curtails the supply chain before it reaches local markets.

The two arrested individuals are now being questioned, and a wider inquiry is underway to map the trafficking route, identify the origin point of the consignment and dismantle the network that leverages Assam’s location as a critical transit hub.
