Chief Minister cites Congress high command decision for Horatti’s step down

Basavaraj Horatti, Chairman of the Karnataka Legislative Council, confirmed that he will resign on 14 August after handing over his resignation letter. The date aligns with the election of the Deputy Chairman that will be held on the same day.

According to Horatti, Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar told him that the Congress high command had taken a final decision regarding the Council Chairman post and that Horatti should step aside.

Horatti expressed his displeasure over what he called the diminishing of a constitutional office’s prestige, stating that he had been asked to resign under pressure from party leadership.

He also said that despite leaving the chair, he will continue to serve as a regular member of the Legislative Council, participating in its proceedings.
