Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari Opens Floor for Home Department Funding Talk

In a notable shift from past procedures, West Bengal's chief minister will field questions on the Home Department's budget allocation during the extended budget session on Wednesday.

The Home Ministry, which had its last public debate in 2012, was then approved through a rapid "gillotine" process that bypassed detailed examination.

Since the Trinamool Congress took office in 2011, the chief minister herself managed the Home portfolio for the first two years. Subsequent assemblies saw no debates, a point of contention for opposition leaders.

Adhikari has directed the Assembly to allocate two hours for this discussion, after which he will respond to each query. The session will be followed by a cabinet meeting chaired by the chief minister, where key administrative decisions, including those related to the Power Department, will be taken.
