Chief Justice Upadhyay Administers Oath to Seven New High Court Judges

The Delhi High Court marked a significant judicial strengthening on Monday, 21 September, when Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay swore in seven new judges. The oath‑taking included Justice Nivedita Anil Sharma, Justice Nisha Sahay Saxena, Justice Sanjay Sharma, Justice Bharat Parashar, Justice Aditi Choudhary, Justice Dinesh Bhat and Justice Arun Bhardwaj. All honorees were formerly judicial officers in the Delhi district courts. The ceremony attracted the entire bench, senior judicial officers, members of the court registry, practicing counsel and the families of the newly appointed judges. Permanent judge appointments were granted to Justice Sharma and Justice Saxena. The remaining five, including a former Secretary General of the Supreme Court, Bharat Parashar, and former Registrar General Arun Bhardwaj, were named additional judges. The central government disclosed these appointments on 19 September after the Supreme Court Collegium’s recommendation on 10 September. With a sanctioned limit of 60, the Delhi High Court now operates with 50 judges.
