Chief Electoral Officer Requests Proof After Social Media Allegation on Duplicate Voter IDs
Lucknow, October 18 – After a user posted on X alleging that two applications yielded four voter IDs, the Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer’s office responded by asking for the reference numbers of the two filings in question. The office confirmed that the individual had indeed lodged four separate applications.
The response noted that issuing multiple EPICs for a single person is a known issue, and the Election Commission regularly conducts de‑duplication using ECINET. It also signaled that a new mechanism is being prepared to identify duplicate forms at the moment of submission.
Authorities cautioned the public against making unfounded statements that could erode trust in democratic institutions and advised the poster to either amend or remove the misleading content.
