Chief Election Commissioner Calls Nalanda a Symbol of Democratic Pride

Chief Election Commissioner Gyaneash Kumar expressed profound pride after stepping onto the historic grounds of Nalanda University on August 17. He said the ancient site, once a global centre of learning, continues to inspire today’s democratic values.

Speaking to the press, the CEC highlighted the importance of Booth Level Officers in upholding the foundation of democracy. Their work on voter‑list verification, audit coordination with political parties, and poll‑day monitoring ensures free and fair elections.

Kumar also recalled Bihar’s pioneering role in cleaning the electoral roll, a practice that contributed to the extraordinary voter participation in the 2025 state elections. He lauded the electorate’s enthusiasm, stating that the turnout surpassed that of many established democracies worldwide.

The CEC concluded by affirming that visits to heritage sites like Nalanda reinforce the spirit of public service and remind officials of the long legacy of knowledge and civic duty in India.
