Raipur, If two or more cases of the same disease suddenly appear in a village, locality, or settlement, it could be a sign of a potential disease outbreak. In such a situation, local people are the first to know. Now, ordinary citizens can also directly report such suspected health incidents on the Government of India's Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP), enabling the health department to investigate in a timely manner and initiate necessary control measures.
With the aim of promoting public participation and ensuring early detection of diseases, the facility of Community Based Surveillance has been made available on the Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP) under the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP) of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. Through this system, any citizen can directly report online any unusual illness or potential disease outbreak observed in their vicinity.
When reporting information on the portal, general information such as the name, mobile number, age, gender, address, and occupation of the informant, along with the date and location of the event, and a brief description of the illness or health-related problem, needs to be entered. If any photos or other documents related to the event are available, they can also be uploaded as evidence. After filling in all mandatory information and verifying with the OTP received on the mobile, the information reaches the concerned health officials. If necessary, officials can also contact the informant for additional information.
According to public health experts, timely information is the most crucial link in preventing the spread of any infectious disease. With information received at the initial stage, the health department can quickly initiate investigations, sample collection, treatment, and necessary control measures, thereby preventing the disease from becoming a major outbreak or epidemic. Community surveillance not only strengthens the health system but also ensures the safety of the entire society through active citizen participation.
