Widespread Rainfall Expected From Bihar to Assam, Including Himalayan States
A fresh round of monsoon activity has taken hold across the Indian subcontinent, prompting the weather bureau to place a yellow rain alert over Delhi for the 4th and 5th of September. The capital will be under a thick cloud cover, with daytime highs near 32°C and night‑time lows around 26°C.
The rain umbrella stretches over twenty states, starting from Bihar in the east and moving up to Assam in the far northeast. In the northern belt, Haryana and Chandigarh are set for heavy precipitation on September 4‑5. Uttarakhand is likely to endure strong rain from the 4th through the 9th, while western Uttar Pradesh may experience intense showers on the 4th, and its eastern districts could see rain from the 4th‑8th.
Mountainous regions are not spared. Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh may receive heavy rain on September 4. Himachal Pradesh is forecast to have heavy rain on the 4th‑5th, followed by lighter rain events between the 6th‑9th. The department also issued alerts for possible thunderstorms and lightning across several hill stations during the same timeframe.
Moving west, Punjab could see scattered rain from the 4th‑9th. Rajasthan’s eastern districts may be hit by heavy rain on September 4, while western parts could see intermittent showers from the 4th‑6th. In Madhya Pradesh, the western side is expected to get rain between the 4th‑7th, and the eastern side between the 4th‑8th, with a few locations experiencing very heavy rain on the 4th‑5th.
Eastern India remains wet. Bihar may receive rain on the 4th‑5th and on the 9th, with heavier showers on the 4th‑6th and 8th‑9th. Jharkhand is projected to have rain from the 4th‑7th and intensified rain on the 5th and 8th‑9th. The sub‑Himalayan zones of West Bengal and Sikkim could see heavy rain from the 4th‑8th, while the plains of West Bengal may experience strong downpours on the 4th‑5th and again on the 8th‑9th. Odisha is expected to have occasional rain throughout the 4th‑9th.
The northeastern corridor—including Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura—faces a broad rain spread from September 4 to 9. Along the western coastline, the Konkan belt, Goa, Gujarat, central Maharashtra, Marathwada and the Saurashtra‑Kutch region may see scattered showers, with central Maharashtra also flagged for occasional thunderstorms and lightning.
