Torwa Police Capture Married Pair After Pursuing Missing Youth Who Pretended to Marry
The Torwa police department announced the successful capture of a married couple allegedly involved in a marriage‑based con that resulted in the physical exploitation of a woman and the seizure of assets amounting to approximately ₹12‑13 lakh. The victim, a resident of Korba, filed a First Information Report on March 9, 2026, after being lured into a relationship with Pawan Kumar Yadav, who falsely portrayed himself as single on a matrimonial website.
Yadav allegedly established an intimate relationship with the complainant, later invoking a fabricated job opportunity to extract large cash payments and gold‑silver jewellery. The victim reported that the demands escalated over time, eventually culminating in a sizeable financial loss.
Following the filing of the FIR, the accused fled with his spouse, Navita Yadav, frequently changing locations to avoid detection. Police raids at family homes yielded no trace, and the suspects’ phones remained disconnected. A monetary incentive was announced for any tip leading to their arrest.
Forensic examination of banking data highlighted continuous transactions in Navita’s account, which were linked to withdrawals in Ballabhgarh, Haryana. The investigative trail, reinforced by information from a local cash‑withdrawal point, enabled authorities to locate and detain the pair.
Both individuals, aged 34 and 30 respectively, were taken into custody on August 9 in Haryana and brought before the Bilaspur court, where they were remanded in jail under sections 69, 318(4) and 3(5) of the Indian Penal Code.
