Raipur, Expert doctors from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Chhattisgarh Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS), Bilaspur, have successfully performed an extremely complex and high-risk surgery. Doctors at SIMS have given a new lease on life to a 78-year-old woman from Darri Ghat (Bilaspur) by safely removing a cancerous tumor weighing approximately 1 kilogram from her left ovary.

Private hospital had quoted 3 lakh rupees for the cost, treatment became free with Ayushman Yojana. The patient had been suffering from severe pain in the lower abdomen and a rapidly growing lump for the past 5-6 months. The family had first taken her to a private hospital, where after examination, a cost of 2 to 3 lakh rupees was quoted for the operation and treatment. The family was worried due to financial constraints. During the sonography investigation, Head of Radiology Department Dr. Archana Singh found that the patient had a massive tumor of 15x12x10 centimeters size in her left ovary, which was putting heavy pressure on the surrounding organs. Following this, a multidisciplinary team of expert doctors successfully completed highly complex procedures on August 3, 2026, including staging surgery for cancer, reducing tumor burden, removal of the uterus and both ovaries, repair of the left ureter, and implantation of a double-J stent.
