Successful surgery brings back the smile on Bhime Hemla's face

Raipur, July 10 2026 – Cleft lip, a congenital lip deformity, is a common problem where the tissue of the upper lip or palate does not fully fuse during the early weeks of pregnancy. The split may affect only the lip or extend up to the nose. Surgery can correct it by 90 to 100 percent. Bhime Hemla, a 22‑year‑old resident of the remote Basaguda village in Bijapur district, was born with a cleft lip. Because of this she faced considerable difficulty in eating, swallowing and speaking clearly. This problem also affected her confidence and daily life. For treatment Bhime Hemla approached the District Hospital Bijapur. Under the guidance of ENT specialist Dr. Vibhu Tiwari and with local anesthesia, her successful surgery was performed.
