In India, the Forest Survey of India and various state forest departments are using satellite and artificial intelligence-based technologies for their Forest Fire Alert and Monitoring Systems. Keeping in mind forest fires, the 'Forest Fire Alert System Version 2.0' has been introduced, and the entire process has been automated.
Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, the Chhattisgarh government is effectively utilizing modern technology for forest conservation and environmental protection. In this direction, the Automated Forest Fire Alert System developed by the Forest and Climate Change Department is ensuring swift control over forest fire incidents.
Developed under the guidance of Forest and Climate Change Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap, this technology is making the functioning of the Forest Department faster, more effective, and transparent. This has provided new strength to the protection of forest resources, wildlife, and biodiversity.
Fire Information Now Received in Minutes
Previously, it used to take one to two hours to receive information about forest fires and relay it to the concerned authorities. During this time, the fire often spread over a large area. Now, with the new automated system, this entire process is completed in just 5 to 10 minutes. This enables timely control over fires.
Accurate Monitoring Through Satellite Technology
This system is based on state-of-the-art satellite technology. Satellites identify abnormal changes in temperature within the forests. After scientific analysis and confirmation of fire, an immediate alert is sent via SMS and email to the concerned forest division, range, and beat-level officers.
Increased Efficiency with Real-Time Monitoring
The Forest Department has integrated this system with a GIS-based real-time dashboard. Through this, officials continuously monitor forest fire incidents. Upon receiving information, field staff reach the spot, take action to extinguish the fire, and submit an online report. This also aids in formulating future strategies and identifying sensitive areas.
Special Emphasis on Public Awareness and Preparedness
The Forest and Climate Change Department is not solely reliant on technology but is also promoting public participation for forest fire prevention. Every year, before the forest fire season, fire lines are created, public awareness campaigns, training, and mock drills are organized to minimize fire incidents.
