Service Story: Food assistance reduces ration expenditure for Sarita's family, savings begin in wage earnings. Service Sankalp Campaign. A six-member family regularly receives rice, chickpeas and sugar, supporting everyday food needs. Earlier a large part of wage earnings was spent on buying ration; now the saved amount is fulfilling other family needs. Raipur – When a limited daily wage income is largely spent on ration, it is difficult to save for other needs. This was the case earlier for the six-member family of Mrs. Sarita Patra, resident of Sakkalo Charpara village, Surguja district. With wages she had to buy rice, oil, salt, sugar and other daily food items. Now, under food assistance, regular ration supply has met the family’s food requirements and some of the wage earnings are being saved. Sharing her "Service Story" under the Service Sankalp Campaign, Sarita says her family has six members. They receive rice, chickpeas and sugar from the ration shop, which helps meet regular food needs and reduces the burden on the household budget. Earlier, the entire wage earnings went to buying ration. Sarita explains that the family lives on daily wages; earlier the wages were used to buy rice and other food items, leaving little left for other necessities. Now, receiving rice, chickpeas and sugar through ration reduces this expense, allowing some of the wage earnings to be saved and used for other daily needs. Six-member family’s household budget gets support. Sarita says, "Earlier we earned wages and spent the same money on rice, oil, salt, sugar. We could not save any money. Now, receiving rice, sugar and chickpeas has started saving a little money." Regular ration supply has made food arrangements easier for the six-member family. The reduction in regular food expenses is allowing limited income to be available for other needs as well. Concern over ration has decreased, attention is being given to other needs. Sarita expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai for the food assistance. She says that the ration facility helps wage‑earning families meet daily food needs and also makes it possible to save some of their hard‑earned income. Sarita’s "Service Story" shows that food assistance not only fulfills food needs but also supports the household budget of low‑income families. Reduced ration expenses allow part of the wage earnings to be saved for other necessities.
