Self‑Reliant in Chuktipani: Babli Yadav’s Journey Across Three Income Streams

In Chuktipani, a modest hamlet of Raipur district, Babli Yadav has built a multi‑layered income model that blends services, agriculture and trade. The journey began when she became president of the Jagriti Mahila Self‑Help Group, obtained a group loan and purchased a computer. She then launched a photocopy centre from her home, offering printing, scanning and basic IT assistance to neighbours.

To expand her earnings, Babli adopted mushroom cultivation. Using locally available straw and simple indoor setups, she produced edible fungi that command premium prices in nearby markets.

Simultaneously, she joined a mahua procurement collective, sourcing the bark‑flower from forest‑adjacent collectors and supplying it to processing units. This role brings additional commission‑based income.

Together, the three ventures contribute roughly INR 10,000 per month, enabling Babli to meet family needs more effectively. The housing benefit under the Prime Minister Awas Yojana and the Mahatari Vandana Scheme have further solidified her economic standing.
