The state government's priority is that rural women not only receive the benefits of schemes but also strengthen their family's economic condition through self-employment and establish a new identity in society. In realizing this vision, the National Rural Livelihoods Mission 'Bihan' has emerged as a powerful medium. The success story of Mrs. Pushpa Sav from village Kurmapali in Raigarh district is an inspiring example of this transformative campaign.
Until a few years ago, Mrs. Pushpa Sav's family was entirely dependent on daily wages. Despite a day's hard work, the income was not enough to meet all the family's needs easily. Children's education, family sustenance, and future worries had become a part of their lives. The dream of a better life amidst limited resources seemed unrealizable.
During this time, she learned about the National Rural Livelihoods Mission 'Bihan' through the Gram Panchayat. She joined the 'Sanskar' self-help group and started regular savings. Through the group, she received training, Community Investment Fund (CIF), and financial support from the bank. This support proved to be a strong foundation for the change in her life.
Taking advantage of the state government's policy under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai to connect rural women with self-employment, Mrs. Pushpa Sav started mushroom cultivation at her home with a financial assistance of Rs 10,000 from CIF. She paid special attention to quality production using the techniques learned in training. Her products quickly gained demand in the local market, which also strengthened her confidence.
Seeing the growing possibilities in the business, she expanded mushroom cultivation with an additional investment of about Rs 70,000. Today, she is earning approximately Rs 1.5 lakh annually through mushroom production. This income has not only strengthened the family's economic condition but has also made it possible to provide better education for the children, meet household needs, and save for the future. The inclusion of mushrooms in the family's diet has also led to a positive improvement in nutritional levels.
Mrs. Pushpa Sav says that if she had not received guidance and support from 'Bihan', her family would likely still be dependent on labor today. Today, she operates her business with respect and is also inspiring other women in the village to take up self-employment. She believes that proper training, availing government schemes, and continuous hard work can bring positive change in anyone's life.
