Raipur, Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai, the Chhattisgarh government is continuously making effective efforts to economically empower and make rural women self-reliant. The state government's priority is that rural women not only receive the benefits of schemes but also strengthen their family's economic condition through self-employment and establish a new identity in society. The National Rural Livelihood Mission 'Bihan' has emerged as a powerful medium in realizing this vision. The success story of Smt. Pushpa Saw from village Kurmapali in Raigarh district is an inspiring example of this transformative campaign.

Until a few years ago, Smt. Pushpa Saw's family was entirely dependent on daily wage labor. Despite working hard all day, the income was not enough to comfortably meet all the family's needs. Children's education, family maintenance, and future worries had become a part of their lives. A dream of a better life with limited resources seemed unattainable.

During this time, she learned about the National Rural Livelihood Mission 'Bihan' through the Gram Panchayat. She joined the Sanskar Self-Help Group and started regular savings. Through the group, she received training, access to the Community Investment Fund (CIF), and financial support from the bank. This support proved to be a strong foundation for the change in her life.

Taking advantage of the state government's policy to connect rural women with self-employment under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnudev Sai, Smt. Pushpa Saw started mushroom cultivation at her home with the Rs 10,000 assistance received from CIF. She focused on producing quality products using the techniques learned during her training. Her products rapidly gained demand in the local market, which also strengthened her confidence.

Seeing the growing potential in the business, she expanded her mushroom cultivation by investing an additional Rs 70,000. Today, she earns approximately Rs 1.5 lakh annually through mushroom production. This income has not only strengthened the family's economic condition but has also made it possible to provide better education for the children, meet household needs, and save for the future. Including mushrooms in the family's diet has also led to a positive improvement in nutritional levels.

Smt. Pushpa Saw says that if she had not received guidance and support from 'Bihan', her family would likely still be dependent on labor today. Today, she conducts her business with respect and is also inspiring other women in the village to take up self-employment. She believes that proper training, the benefits of government schemes, and continuous hard work can bring positive change in anyone's life.

The National Rural Livelihood Mission 'Bihan' has become a strong base for economic empowerment for millions of rural women in the state today.
