Road Reaches Bade Bodal: Bastar Shifts Toward Development
A new chapter is unfolding in the villages of Bastar, where the terrain and the legacy of Naxal violence once kept development at bay. Construction of a road to Bade Bodal village in Jagdalpur block has begun, marking a significant step in the region's transformation. With Naxal influence receding in several areas, the government has placed greater emphasis on building basic infrastructure, and roads are at the centre of this plan.
The project is being carried out under PMGSY-IV. Work started as soon as weather conditions allowed. The road between Surnadwada Road and Bade Bodal measures 1.80 km, and its estimated cost is 1 crore 92 lakh 6 thousand rupees.
Officials and residents view the project as a bridge to the mainstream. Villages that were previously isolated are now set to be linked with towns and services, reducing the hardships that people faced in meeting everyday needs.
Nine sanctioned roads spanning 33.39 km
Under PMGSY-IV, nine roads have been approved in Jagdalpur block. Their combined length is 33.39 kilometres. The L-139 route to Bade Bodal is included in this package. The road from Surnadwada Road to Bade Bodal is expected to make movement easier for nearby remote settlements as well.
Gains for education, health and agriculture
Once the road is finished, Bade Bodal and surrounding villages will have year-round connectivity. Schoolchildren, patients, farmers and other villagers are all expected to benefit. Reduced difficulties during the rainy season could also improve access to schools, health services and agricultural activities.
Development beyond security
In areas that are now free from Naxal influence, the focus is shifting to essential development needs. Roads, education, healthcare and other civic facilities form part of the government's strategy. The road work at Bade Bodal reflects this broader change.
For Bastar, the challenge is no longer limited to freedom from Naxalism. The task now is to build lasting development on the foundation of peace. Bringing roads to distant villages stands out as one of the most important measures of this progress.
