Revival of Bijnali Reservoir

Revival of Bijnali Reservoir 250 hectares of fields received rejuvenating water Rabi crops will flourish in six villages of Narayanpur Raipur, September 08, 2026 – Timely efforts of the Water Resources Department and the desilting campaign of Bijnali Reservoir's canals have transformed the agricultural landscape of Bastar region. The department, through the Water Resources Wing, Narayanpur, carried out extensive canal repairs and silt removal, which is now showing a direct positive impact on the fields. With this smooth operation, about 250 hectares of agricultural land in the Narayanpur development block villages of Khairabhat, Palki, Telsi, Karlakha, Guriya and Sulenga have received assured irrigation facilities. Over time, silt and obstructions had accumulated in the canals of Bijnali Reservoir, hindering water flow, making it very challenging to deliver water to fields. After cleaning and necessary repairs, water now flows unhindered through the canals, reducing farmers' dependence on the monsoon. This water security increases the possibility of a significant improvement in the production and quality of Kharif as well as Rabi crops. Fields that previously had limited cultivation due to water scarcity now see farmers cultivating double crops, strengthening their economic condition. This initiative of the Water Resources Department has given new momentum to the rural economy of the region and brought a pleasant and positive change in the lives of farmers.
