Raipur Raid Nets Cash, Diamond Rings and Luxury Items Linked to Procurement Scam

Law enforcement officers conducted simultaneous raids at six sites in Raipur and Bilaspur, as well as two locations in Ujjain, as part of the ongoing probe into alleged procurement irregularities. The operation yielded significant physical evidence, including cash, jewellery and equipment that investigators say were part of the illegal benefit structure.

Among the seized items were cash amounting to Rs 32.65 lakh, two diamond rings priced at about Rs 40,250, and a set of air‑conditioners and granite tiles installed at Verma’s residence, indicating the conversion of kickbacks into personal luxuries.

The raids also uncovered documentation of high‑mast LED lighting contracts approved for municipal bodies in Jazipur, Pusaur, Bhopattnam, Narharpur and Konta, totalling Rs 1.46 crore. The complainant’s firm had executed work in Kanta, Narharpur and Jazipur, and the investigation alleges that Verma leveraged these projects to extract five air‑conditioners and two smart fans as part of the illicit remuneration.
