Investigation Launched After Balcony Wire Accident in Raipur

RAIPUR – Authorities have opened a forensic probe after a mother and her son died when a live electric current traveled through a clothes‑drying wire on a balcony. The victims, identified as 54‑year‑old Kalayani Yadav and her 23‑year‑old son Madhusudan Yadav, were in the process of retrieving laundry when the metal line became energized.

Police from Tikrapara police station reached the scene, secured the area and are now examining the building’s electrical layout. Investigators are focused on pinpointing the exact point where current entered the wire, whether through a faulty internal circuit, an unauthorized tap, or a grounding error.

The pair had come from Koonra village to the city to see their daughter, a nursing student living in a rented accommodation in Chhattisgarh Nagar. Their sudden deaths have sent shockwaves through both the local community and the broader Raipur region, prompting calls for stricter compliance with electrical safety codes.

Officials have urged residents to inspect household wiring, especially makeshift drying setups, to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
