State Road Safety Council meeting reviews with both Deputy Chief Ministers and Transport Minister 61 thousand challans and fitness check of more than 31 thousand vehicles Raipur, June 09, 2026/The government has given special emphasis on technology-based monitoring, better driver training, scientific fitness check of vehicles, and effective compliance of traffic rules to reduce road accidents in Chhattisgarh. In the State Road Safety Council meeting held at the Ministry in Nava Raipur, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Arun Sao, Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma, and Transport Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap reviewed various aspects related to road safety and instructed officials to ensure effective implementation. MLA Shri Anuj Sharma and senior officials from various departments were present in the meeting. It was informed in the meeting that modern vehicle fitness centers, e-driving test tracks, ANPR cameras, and speed monitoring systems are being expanded to strengthen road safety in the state. From January to May 2026, the fitness of 31,604 vehicles was checked, while more than 61,000 challans were issued through the technical monitoring system. Deputy Chief Minister Shri Arun Sao said that road safety is not just the responsibility of one department, but a collective responsibility of society. Coordinated efforts in road engineering, effective enforcement, and public awareness are necessary to reduce accidents. He emphasized the regular review of accident-prone spots and ensuring necessary corrective measures, as well as making awareness campaigns more effective. Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sharma said that preventing loss of life due to road accidents is among the top priorities of the government. He said that the use of modern technology can make traffic rule compliance more effective. He instructed for better coordination among enforcement agencies and to ensure prompt action on rule violations. He also emphasized increasing awareness about traffic rules among youth and students. Transport Minister Shri Kedar Kashyap said that technology, training, public awareness, and an effective enforcement system will be further strengthened to reduce road accidents. He said that under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai, the state government is continuously working towards developing a safe traffic system and making road safety a campaign of public participation. He instructed officials to ensure regular review and effective implementation of road safety programs. Information was given in the meeting that fitness checks of 31,604 vehicles were conducted in modern fitness centers operating in various districts including Raipur, Bilaspur, Ambikapur, Jagdalpur, Durg, Rajnandgaon, Korba, Janjgir-Champa, and Raigarh from January to May 2026. To promote safe and efficient driving, e-driving test tracks are being operated in many districts, while the process of constructing them in eight new districts is underway in the financial year 2026-27. Regional driving training centers are operating in Bilaspur and Jagdalpur, and driving training centers are operating in 14 districts. For effective compliance of traffic rules in the country, 174 ANPR cameras and seven LiDAR-based speed cameras have been installed. More than 61,000 challans have been issued through them from January to May 2026. Road safety is being ensured by installing speed governors in 2,68,316 vehicles so far. Modern training is being imparted to drivers at IDTR in Nava Raipur. 15,779 drivers were trained in 2025 and 4,064 drivers were trained by April 2026. From January to April 2026, a compounding fee of Rs 62.21 crore was collected from 2.86 lakh vehicles for traffic rule violations. In cases of serious violations, 7,434 driving licenses were suspended or canceled during 2025-26.
