Guidelines for Parents: Nutrition, Immunisation and Safe Practices for Infants
Beyond medicines, the campaign emphasises behavioural change among mothers and caregivers. Exclusive breastfeeding is promoted for the first six months, with early colostrum feeding within the first hour of birth. After six months, caregivers are advised to introduce appropriate complementary foods while continuing breast milk. Parents are encouraged to talk, read and sing to their babies to stimulate brain development, ensure 12‑16 hours of sleep for infants aged four to twelve months, and engage them in regular physical movement. Hygiene practices—regular hand washing, safe sanitation and avoidance of restrictive devices such as swings or bouncers for long periods—are highlighted to reduce infection risk.
