Nimmalguda's Image Changed by MGNREGA

500 water absorption trenches increased groundwater level, 1,801 person-days of employment were generated. Raipur, under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGA), a successful example of water conservation and rural employment has emerged in the village of Nimmalguda in Bijapur district. 500 water absorption trenches were constructed in the village, leading to notable success in rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge and local job creation. An amount of Rs 4,95,073 was approved for this work, of which Rs 4,70,61 was spent to complete the construction. During this period, employment of 1,801 person-days was created, providing local work to many families and increasing their income. The water absorption trenches have allowed rainwater to infiltrate the soil in larger quantities, improving groundwater levels, reducing soil erosion and helping retain moisture in fields for longer periods. Farmers are receiving irrigation benefits and the potential for increased agricultural productivity has risen. The work undertaken under MGNREGA was not limited to providing employment but also proved significant for water conservation, environmental protection and sustainable development. This effort by the village of Nimmalguda is an inspiring example of effective implementation and community participation under MGNREGA, emerging as a successful model for rural development and natural resource conservation.
