Naxalite Threat to Balod Magistrate Sparks Security Concerns

The judicial fraternity in Chhattisgarh is on high alert following a serious threat directed at Gunderdehi Magistrate Prashant Kumar Dewangan. On March 27, 2026, an envelope arrived at the magistrate’s office containing a letter that demanded a ransom of Rs 2 to 3 crore. Claiming to be from a Naxalite outfit in the Kanker-Bastar belt, the letter threatened the lives of the judge and his family members. The correspondence included inflammatory remarks regarding the magistrate’s professional conduct, accusing him of taking bribes and neglecting the poor. In response, the magistrate has sought immediate police intervention and additional protection. The Gunderdehi police are currently tracing the origins of the postal delivery and analyzing the content for potential leads.
