National Sample Survey (NSS) 81st Round Launched

National Sample Survey (NSS) 81st round has been launched Migration, All India Debt & Investment and Agricultural Families Situation Assessment Surveys have started regional work. Raipur, under the guidance of the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), Government of India and the Economic and Statistics Directorate, Chhattisgarh, the regional survey of Migration Survey, All India Debt & Investment Survey (AIDIS) and Situation Assessment Survey (SAS) under the 81st round of NSS commenced in July 2026 and will be conducted till June 2027. The purpose of these three nationally important surveys is to collect reliable data on the socio‑economic conditions of the state and the country so that evidence‑based policies, schemes and development programmes can be effectively formulated. Assessment of changing migration trends will be carried out. The Migration Survey will collect information on reasons for movement of individuals and families from one place to another, duration of migration, employment, education, marriage and other socio‑economic factors. The data will provide an important basis to understand migration trends and their social and economic impacts in the country. A comprehensive picture of families' financial situation will be obtained. Under AIDIS, information on household indebtedness, sources of loans, types of investments, assets and liabilities will be collected, enabling an overall assessment of citizens' financial status, access to credit and the level of financial inclusion. The Situation Assessment Survey (SAS) will provide important data on the income, agricultural and allied activities, farm costs, availability of resources, loan status and standard of living of agricultural families. The survey findings will help make agricultural policies and farmer welfare programmes more effective and result‑oriented. The survey will be conducted using a tablet‑based CAPI (Computer Assisted Personal Interviewing) system by trained enumerators and supervisors from selected rural and urban households in the state, ensuring more accurate, transparent and timely data collection. All information obtained during the survey will be kept strictly confidential as per the provisions of the Statistics Act, 2008 and will be used only for statistical purposes. The Economic and Statistics Directorate, Chhattisgarh urges the selected families in the state to provide correct and complete information to the survey team and extend active cooperation in this nationally important exercise. Quality data gathered with the cooperation of citizens will play a crucial role in formulating effective policies and welfare schemes for the development of the state and the country.
