Repair work underway near Chhatouna on National Highway-45, traffic fully operational

Raipur, August 13, 2026/Traffic is fully operational on the National Highway-45 in Gourela-Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, and repair work is progressing at full speed where the road surface was damaged due to excessive rainfall. The project work is progressing rapidly, with 58 percent physical progress achieved so far.

Road surface affected by excessive rainfall and pressure from heavy vehicles

According to information received from officials of the Public Works Department, National Highways Department, the GSB (Granular Sub-Base) layer work has been completed near the village Chhatouna at KM 290.000 of the Kenvchi-Ratanpur road (NH No.-45), where a toll plaza is proposed. In recent days, heavy rainfall and the movement of a large number of heavy vehicles had caused damage to the road surface in this specific section.

Department continuously vigilant

The department informed that upon receiving information about the damage, the EPC contractor (M/s Shanti Engicon Pvt. Ltd.) immediately started repair work, which is continuously ongoing. To ensure that traffic on the road is not affected, departmental officials are monitoring the site and ensuring smooth operation of traffic.

58 percent work completed at a cost of 286 crore

It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, New Delhi, had given administrative approval of Rs 286.00 crore on March 31, 2022, for the 2-lane widening and upgradation (with paved shoulder, Package-2) of the 42.598 km long stretch of NH No.-45 (KM 278.750 to 321.348). As per rules, the work order was issued on July 15, 2024, after the tender process. DBM (Bituminous Macadam) for 25.770 km, 98 HP culverts, 14 RCC box culverts, 07 minor bridges, 4.890 km RCC drains, and a total of 4.467 km of retaining wall and toe wall work have been completed.

The Public Works Department, National Highways Department, has appealed to the general public and vehicle drivers not to pay attention to rumors, stating that traffic on the route is continuing and the remaining work will also be completed soon.
