National Artificial Insemination Program Transforms Neelambar’s Fate in Yohinapali

Rairpur – For livestock farmer Shri Neelambar Patel of the village Yohinapali in Sarangadh tehsil, animal husbandry is no longer just a means of livelihood but has become the main source of his family’s financial stability and self‑reliance. Continuous technical guidance from the National Artificial Insemination Programme (NAIP) and the Animal Husbandry Department has improved the breed of his cattle, bringing an unprecedented change in his life. A few years ago Neelambar owned only six native‑breed cows that yielded merely 10 to 15 litres of milk per day, making it a challenge to meet daily expenses, educate his children and invest in farming. To overcome this, he approached the department and opted for artificial insemination under NAIP. As a result, his herd now includes two HF cross‑breeds and four Jersey cross‑breeds, and a Jersey cross‑breed calf born through the program is laying the foundation for a bright dairy future. With the superior breeds, milk production has surged to about 60‑65 litres daily. He sells this milk to local private hotels and customers at ₹50 per litre, earning a direct daily income of ₹2,400‑₹2,600, a monthly income of ₹72,000‑₹78,000 and an annual income of roughly ₹8.76‑₹9.36 lakh. The Animal Husbandry Department’s ongoing support—vaccinations, deworming, foot‑and‑mouth disease control, health checks and disease‑management guidance—has ensured stable milk output. Moreover, Neelambar has linked livestock with agriculture by producing organic manure from animal dung for his fields, reducing chemical fertilizer costs and maintaining soil fertility. He believes that with proper technology, government guidance and sustained effort, animal husbandry can become a strong tool for empowering rural families and generating stable income. This success story from Yohinapali is now inspiring other rural livestock farmers in the area.
