Mushroom Production Training in Sukma Paves a New Path to Self-Reliance

Raipur, July 10 2026 – In the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, under the state government’s rehabilitation and skill development policy, a commendable initiative has been taken. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sahay, dedicated youth have been given special mushroom production training at the Agricultural Science Center (KVK) Sukma to integrate them with mainstream society and make them economically self‑reliant. A 15‑day skill development programme was completed. Organized jointly by the Agricultural Science Center Sukma and the Agriculture Department, 25 dedicated youths participated in this programme. The main aim of the training is to connect these youths with agriculture‑based self‑employment and provide them a respectable livelihood. During the training, agriculture experts gave practical demonstrations of the scientific cultivation of oyster mushrooms. The youths were provided simple technical knowledge, including preparation and treatment of rice straw (paira), correct use of mushroom spawn to prepare poly‑bags, maintaining moisture balance, scientific harvesting, packaging and selling in the local market. Experts emphasized that mushroom production is a profitable business that can be started with very low cost, little space and in a short time. Especially in rural and forest‑fringe areas, youths can earn a regular good income each month by using locally available resources. The training highlighted the nutritious value of mushrooms, which are rich in protein, fiber, vitamin B, vitamin D and several essential minerals, low in fat and calories. Because of this, market demand for mushrooms is continuously rising, making it an excellent and safe self‑employment option. This initiative will not only provide economic support to the dedicated youths but also enable them to live their lives in mainstream society with renewed confidence.
