Moor Village-Moor Water Campaign Gives Rural Livelihoods a New Flight

Rai, the Chhattisgarh government launched the 'Moor Gaon-Moor Paani' mega campaign, turning water conservation in rural areas into a large public movement. Under the scheme, structures such as soak pits, rainwater harvesting, pond deepening and field ponds are being built to raise the groundwater level and provide employment to villagers. In Janjgir-Champa district, the campaign includes 'Nawa Taria Ay Ke Jariya' and other water structures to enhance groundwater and conserve water, creating irrigation facilities and new livelihood opportunities for women. Through agriculture and fish farming, farmers will become self-reliant. Led by Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai, the state-run Moor Gaon-Moor Paani campaign is proving an effective initiative to conserve water, expand irrigation and increase farmer incomes. Under the Viksit Bharat Ji Ram Ji scheme, livelihood-based water structures are being constructed in Janjgir-Champa to make farmers self-sufficient through agriculture and fish farming. Construction of 47 livelihood tanks has been approved; 35 are already completed. Rainwater-filled tanks provide sufficient water for irrigation, boosting crop yields and agricultural production. Fourteen of the tanks now operate fish farming and agriculture-based activities. The tanks also serve as a strong source of extra income for rural families, with crops such as pulses, oilseeds and others grown on tank bunds, increasing production and earnings. Four more tanks are under construction. Effective implementation has accelerated rainwater conservation, improved groundwater levels and expanded irrigation facilities, enabling farmers to engage year-round in agriculture and fish farming, continuously increasing their income. The Moor Gaon-Moor Paani campaign is emerging as a key state initiative for natural resource conservation, increasing agricultural productivity and strengthening the rural economy, linking water conservation with community participation, empowering farmers and giving new momentum to rural development.
