Mass public participation in 'Mor Gaon-Mor Pani' campaign under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai

Construction of 2.85 lakh water conservation structures in Balod district under VB-G Ram Ji Yojana, developing 19.23 lakh cubic meters of additional water storage capacity.

Remarkable initiative towards water security through rooftop rainwater harvesting, ponds, dubris, recharge shafts, check dams, and groundwater recharge works.

Raipur, July 14, 2026 / Under the leadership of Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Deo Sai and guidance of Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Panchayat and Rural Development Shri Vijay Sharma, the 'Mor Gaon-Mor Pani' campaign, operated under the Developed India-Guarantee for Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural), is turning water conservation into a mass movement across the state. The campaign has given a significant impetus to employment generation as well as works related to water conservation, groundwater enhancement, natural resource management, and green development.

In this regard, the District Administration of Balod is undertaking various water conservation works with the active participation of all Gram Panchayats, government offices, educational institutions, industrial establishments, self-help groups, and social organizations. The objective of the campaign is to implement the concept, "Wherever it rains, whenever it rains – rainwater should be conserved right there."

Under the campaign, rooftop rainwater harvesting and recharge shafts, dubris, ponds, and trenches for surface rainwater harvesting have been constructed in every government building. Furthermore, promoting the installation of soak pits and rainwater harvesting systems in handpumps and Prime Minister's residences is also being encouraged.

For groundwater enhancement, various water conservation structures including recharge pits, injection wells, recharge of defunct borewells, renovation and deepening of ponds, check dams, and water-absorbing trenches have been constructed and revitalized.

In the district, through VB-G-Ramji (MGNREGA), Forest Department, District Mineral Trust (DMF), various incentive schemes, and public participation, 2.85 lakh water conservation structures have been constructed so far, developing an additional water storage capacity of approximately 19.23 lakh cubic meters. This will significantly aid in increasing the groundwater level, conserving soil moisture, improving irrigation facilities for both Kharif and Rabi crops, and enhancing farmers' income.

The most crucial basis for the campaign's success is public participation. With the active involvement of public representatives, women's self-help groups, village development committees, women commandos, Green Army, and school and college students, initiatives for cleaning ponds and reservoirs, raising awareness about constructing household water conservation structures, and large-scale tree plantation and seed ball campaigns are being conducted. More than 3 lakh seed balls have been planted so far in July, and a target of planting 2 lakh saplings has been set.

The state government, through the VB-G Ram Ji Yojana, is prioritizing water conservation, natural resource management, green development, and rural livelihood enhancement works in all districts of the state. With the spirit of 'Water Conservation – Towards Water Prosperity Through Public Participation', the Balod District Administration is continuously working towards the goal of water-secure, green, and prosperous rural development.
