In the Surguja district of Chhattisgarh, a married man’s clandestine midnight visit to his married girlfriend ended in a series of unexpected events. The couple was caught, beaten, and subsequently subjected to a surprising ruling by a village panchayat.
The incident took place in the Lakhanpur police station area. The man, identified as Shubham Rajwade, resident of Telaikachhar village, was caught with his girlfriend in the village of Puhputra, where she resides after her marriage. Family members apprehended them, tied them up, and assaulted them. Following the altercation, a panchayat was convened, leading to a decision that has raised eyebrows.
According to sources, Shubham had gone to meet his girlfriend on Monday night. The woman’s husband was not home, but other family members were present and discovered the meeting. The couple was caught in the act and tied up. Before the panchayat, they were beaten. The police were also notified.
During the panchayat meeting, it was revealed that the two had been in a relationship before their respective marriages. Despite not being able to marry each other, their relationship continued with occasional meetings. The panchayat ultimately decided to hand the woman over to her lover, and she was sent away with him. Police have stated that no formal complaint was filed by either party, hence no First Information Report (FIR) was registered.
