Local Bodies Empowered to Remove Unauthorized Structures from Public Land
In Nakti village, Raipur district, Revenue Minister Tankaraman Verma announced that municipal corporations and gram panchayats are now fully empowered to dismantle illegal constructions on government land. The announcement comes amid ongoing disputes over the removal of encroachments on a vacant state parcel.
The minister emphasized that protecting government land, playgrounds, and other public spaces is essential for community welfare and safety. He urged citizens to avoid participating in illegal occupations and to help spread awareness.
According to Verma, unapproved settlements on public land cause congestion, increase road‑safety hazards, and disrupt essential services like water supply and sanitation.
He urged a collaborative effort among local officials, elected representatives, and the public to ensure that public assets remain free from illegal occupation.
