JP Nadda and Jitendra Singh Meet Wangchuk at Medanta Hospital to End Fast

Gurgaon, 24 July 2026 – Union Health Minister JP Nadda and Minister of State Dr Jitendra Singh visited Medanta Hospital late Thursday night to meet Sonam Wangchuk, who had been on a 26‑day hunger strike.

Both ministers arrived with a glass of juice, which Wangchuk accepted, signaling the conclusion of his fast. The meeting was attended by senior figures from the Ladakh Apex Body and several parliamentary members who had written to Wangchuk urging an end to the protest.

Wangchuk released a video on X stating that the decision to stop his hunger strike was contingent on receiving written assurances from the government. He highlighted promises related to parliamentary discussion on exam accountability, compensation for families affected by the NEET leak, and a guarantee that no fresh cases would be filed against peaceful demonstrators.

He recounted that two days of intensive negotiations preceded the meeting, during which his demand for documented commitments delayed his decision by an additional 48 hours.

In his address, Wangchuk thanked the 65 MPs who intervened, the Ladakh leaders, and urged citizens to maintain peace and refrain from any form of violence. He promised a subsequent video outlining the full scope of the agreements reached.
