While a punishing heatwave grips the northern plains of India, there is a glimmer of hope as the South-West Monsoon begins its steady advance. The India Meteorological Department has indicated that conditions are turning favorable for the monsoon to progress into the South-East Arabian Sea and parts of the Bay of Bengal over the next few days. Meteorologists anticipate that the monsoon will reach the Kerala coast around May 26, slightly ahead of its usual schedule. However, for the immediate future, regions like Delhi, Haryana, and Rajasthan remain under a strict heatwave watch. Delhi’s temperature is expected to hover around 44 degrees Celsius, making daily life challenging for commuters and outdoor workers. The contrasting weather patterns also suggest imminent thunderstorms in parts of East India, including Bihar and Jharkhand.
