IMD Forecast: Widespread Thunderstorms and Flood Risks Across Northern and Central India

According to the India Meteorological Department, the southwest monsoon is steadily advancing, with its northern boundary threading through Jamnagar, Udaipur, Ajmer, Jhunjhunu, Hisar and Bhindran. Over the next three days, the system is likely to push further into Gujarat, Haryana, Punjab and the remaining parts of Rajasthan. The IMD cautions that Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Gujarat’s coastal stretch, Konkan‑Goa and central Maharashtra may encounter episodes of very heavy rain on 6 July. Heavy rainfall alerts have been issued for Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, eastern Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, Jharkhand, Bihar and several districts of Uttar Pradesh. In the northern belt, strong thunderstorms with wind gusts of 40‑60 km/h are expected in Haryana, Delhi, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. The department highlights the likelihood of water‑logging, traffic disruptions, flash floods in low‑lying areas and possible landslides. Citizens are urged to stay indoors, monitor official weather updates, and cooperate with local disaster management teams.
