Commission Urges Departments to Install Hygiene Kiosks Across Chhattisgarh

In a decisive step toward enhancing adolescent health, the Chhattisgarh Child Rights Commission has directed three state ministries to roll out hygiene kiosks that dispense sanitary pads in every girls’ school, co‑educational institution, and residential hostel.

Field inspections in several districts uncovered a widespread shortage of menstrual supplies, compelling many students to attend classes without proper protection. The commission stresses that such gaps compromise not only health but also the right to education.

The suggested placement is within the sanitary block of each school, enabling discreet access. A trained female educator or warden should be on hand to assist students, answer questions, and provide appropriate guidance.

The three ministries – Women and Child Development, School Education, and Tribal & Scheduled Caste Development – have been tasked with conducting a rapid needs assessment, allocating budget, and supervising installation.

The commission also mandates that school administrations and hostel supervisors be accountable for the machines’ operation, regular stocking, and technical upkeep, ensuring uninterrupted service for all menstruating students.
