Historic Expansion of Medical Education in Double Engine Government, Chhattisgarh Receives 5 New Government Medical Colleges

Raipur, July 13 2026 – The National Medical Commission has granted approval for the establishment of five new government medical colleges in Gidam (Dantewada), Kunkuri (Jashpur), Manendragarh, Janjgir‑Champa and Kabirdham, each with 50 MBBS seats, totaling 250 seats from the 2026‑27 academic session. Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai hailed this as a historic milestone for medical education and health infrastructure in Chhattisgarh, emphasizing health and education as the biggest capital for a developed state. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda. The CM said the colleges, ranging from conflict‑affected Gidam to tribal Kunkuri, demonstrate the double‑engine government's reach to the farthest corners, providing local youth with quality medical education and strengthening health services in remote areas. He praised the central government's continuous support and affirmed that the new institutions will serve as hubs for education, research, specialist services and human‑resource development, elevating the state’s health system to new heights.
